6 BENEFITS OF MOISTURIZING YOUR SKIN DAILY

Our skin is the largest organ of our body and it goes without saying that it requires to be looked after the most. We brush, shower, eat healthy food and even exercise daily, but can we say the same thing about our skin? Some of us will say YES and that’s awesome. YES our skin needs daily pampering to keep it happy and glowing and keep those aging signs away.

Moisturizing your skin is one of the top healthy habits that one must incorporate into their routine for healthy, blemish-free and radiant skin.

There are tons of benefits a good moisturizer has for the skin, and the basic job of a hydrating moisturizer is to add moisture to dry skin and help keep it from drying out. So however annoying this extra step in your skincare routine may be to you, it’s super important. So don’t even think about skipping it!

Let us understand the importance of moisturizing your skin every day.

Let us understand the importance of moisturizing your skin every day.

1) Prevents Dryness

It is incorrect to believe that dryness of the skin is associated only with winter. Winter or summer, air conditioned environment or indoor heat are equally responsible for stripping your skin of moisture and making it dry and dull.

A good moisturizer not only replaces the moisture that is lost but also helps in further loss, thus keeping the skin hydrated at all times.

2) Slows Down the Signs of Aging

Well hydrated skin always has a glow and is younger looking skin. It is never too early to make moisturizing your skin part of your daily routine.

The most sensitive areas of our skin are the face, ears, neck, and chest. They shed cells more rapidly than other parts of the body and therefore need moisture to repair themselves, which allows for younger skin cells to rise to the surface. Also, the massaging effect that is used when applying the moisturizer, helps stimulate blood circulation which in turn promotes new cell generation.

3) Fights Wrinkles

That plump, firm feeling in your face after moisturizing isn’t an illusion. A moisturizer acts like a drink of water for your face.

It helps to nourish and hydrate the skin which is especially important as you get older and your skin becomes drier, which makes it more prone to wrinkles.

Research shows that using a moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid is especially effective at preventing wrinkles from forming or getting deeper.

4) Helps Fight Acne

Why use moisturizer on already oily skin is a question often asked. When your skin becomes dry, it sends a message to the glands to produce more oil which can clog the pores and cause breakouts. When the skin is already well hydrated, it prevents it from more oil than is required.

Moisturized skin has a healthy sheen, which can even out any existing blemishes. Some moisturizers have some tint or self-tanner that can work with any skin tone.

Moisturizing daily reduces the chances of the skin developing extreme dryness or oiliness, both of which can be responsible for acne breakouts.

5) Protects from Harsh UV Rays

Dermatologists advise using sun protection every day, irrespective of whether you are indoors or outdoors. Using a moisturizer with sunscreen is a good idea to use. This should not be limited to summer. Using an SPF moisturizer is equally important in winter as well.

6) Soothes Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is marked with redness and irritation, dry and itchy patches. A moisturizer that has soothing ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile, oatmeal, and honey, just to name a few, works wonders for sensitive skin.

Now that we have seen how immensely beneficial a good moisturizer is for the skin, let’s see a few tips that you can follow for radiant and glowing skin.

Watch the temperature of the water. Hot showers strip your skin of moisture making it dry and rough. Switch to warm water and you will see the marked difference it makes to your skin.

Do not rub your skin after a shower. Pat dry instead which helps retain the moisture which in turn is sealed in your skin when you moisturize.

Drink enough water. Experts advise us to drink 6 – 8 glasses of water daily. From helping your skin maintain elasticity, to reducing wrinkles and fine lines, water can do amazing things for your skin and for your overall health.

Use mild soaps and detergents – soaps and shampoos that contain alcohol strip natural oils from your skin.

How Often Should You Moisturize

It is generally recommended to use a moisturizer twice daily – morning and night. It’s a most commonly accepted practice because it ensures that the moisture content of your skin remains

Characteristics of a good moisturizer

  • Moisturizer Should Be Dermatologically Tested.
  • Choose A Lightweight Product.
  • Look For Hydrating Skincare Ingredients.
  • Should Contain Gentle And Non-Irritant Ingredients.
  • Rule Of Thumb, Patch Test!

Choose a moisturizer that works best for your skin. If in doubt, choose one that suits all skin types and make moisturization a part of your daily skin care routine.
